U Chicago REU

Mentor

I have worked with a number of undergraduate students on independent reading projects through the U Chicago Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). At the end of the summer, each participant writes a survey paper. Some of the papers written under my supervision are below:

  • Zhitong (Alexandra) Zhou (2026) – Functional inequalities and log-concave sampling
  • Brian Nguyen (2026) – An introduction to the large deviations principle
  • Zhirun Li (2026) – Hilbert spaces, spectral theory and the Laplace equation
  • Joshua Johnson (2025) – Brownian motion and the Laplace equation
  • Zhitong (Alexandra) Zhou (2025) – Two proofs of Brenier’s theorem
  • Aden Chen (2025) – Optimal transport and the Benamou-Brenier Theorem
  • Ezra Steinberg (2024) – Hilbert’s 19th problem
  • Dinh-Quan Tran (2024) – Viscosity solutions in optimal control theory and zero-sum differential games

Speaker

I have given two lecture series aimed at undergraduates as part of the U Chicago REU.

  • Summer 2026 – Functional inequalities and their applications, 3 lectures
  • Summer 2025 – An introduction to optimal control theory, 2 lectures
